Shih Tzus hold their place in Chinese history as a breed that lived in the emperor's palace walls. They were virtually unknown to the outside world until the 1930s.
Since then, they have charmed their way into many homes in the US and UK.

This breed is considered hypoallergenic, and sheds very little to not at all.
It has been said that no dog is as beautiful as the well-groomed Shih Tzu. A Shih Tzu with a long coat requires daily brushing with a good-quality wire brush.
The hair on top of their head should either be cut short or pulled into a topknot to avoid eye irritation. Ears should be checked and nails should be trimmed as part of regular grooming.
Because the Shih Tzu was bred to be an in-home companion, it requires minimal exercise. Short walks daily and indoor playtime with their owner are enough to meet the exercise needs of this short-legged friend.
